Gentle and crude, AVANT L’AURORE outlines a meeting between drag prostitute Mirinda and mute child Panna in a crumbling Cambodian landscape haunted by its Khmer past. A deeply moving and infinitely delicate portrait-film that is disturbing and fascinating, just like Mirinda who is embodied by the breathtaking David d’Ingéo.

Nathan Nicholovitch is a French filmmaker, born in Villeurbanne in 1976. He created the collective Les Films Aux Dos Tournés à Paris in 1999, in which he trained to become a producer and filmmaker. Hair Salon, his first short movie (2000) was very noticed and picked up awards in many festivals. It was followed in 2003, with a second short film entitled Chacun son camp. Little by little, the acting job took an increasing importance in his reseach and his direction. Then, he created L’Atelier aux dos tournés which regroups a dozen of professional and non-professional acroes. It allowed him to elaborate different methods of acting and therefore improve his cast direction. In 2006, he embarked on the adventure of his first feature film, Casa Nostra. The film was made in 4 shooting sessions that unfolded on a period of 5 years, and it starred the actors of Nicholovitch’s workshop. In 2012, Casa Nostra was selected in the ACID Section of the Cannes Film Festival and was released the following year. During the year 2012, he directed NO BOY in Cambodia and decided to turn it into his second feature film: Avant L’Aurore.
