After a first EP in the wake of the single Wound Me and a tour which took them to a/o Paris and London, the Liège band Fastlane Candies recorded the album Telenovelas in 2013. Almost a hundred concerts later (Les Nuits Botanique, Les Ardentes, Brussels Summer Festival, Francofolies, etc.), the group put the guitars and synthesizers away in 2015 in order to focus on other projects: Alexis was working with the group Mini Sultan and wrote two books, Laurent was busy with lo-fi instrumental electro. It was also a time to explore new horizons. Little by little, compositions with a different sound saw the light of day: less folky, more synthetic and harsher, without for that matter renouncing their pop DNA. Back in the spotlight, Fastlane Candies have just completed Polygene, a new record full of synthesizers and drum machines, which was released by Freaksville Records in February 2019. The band disappeared from the radar to reconnect with their roots and explore new ways of writing. They wanted to control the entire process, from pre-production to arrangements and artistic direction. The recordings took place in Studio 5 (where they have always recorded) under the guidance of Maxime Wathieu (The Mash, Turquoise). A multilingual record with diverse influences, Polygene oscillates between cold melancholy and pop exuberance. The more obvious songs, in line with the previous singles, go hand in hand with more elaborate tracks, full of dark and hypnotic atmospheres, halfway between cold wave and psychedelia. Polygene, mastered by Gilles Martin (Farside Studio, Paris), will take you to a variety of places, from black sandy beaches to sunny glades, alternating melancholic dreams and synthetic pop miniatures.
